My new room.
Today was the first (all-things-considered) sunny day (meaning it only rained for a total of about 15 mins). We ran into Mallow (the nearest town) to get a few things. By the way, I have been corrected many times that WE are living in a VILLAGE, Mallow is a TOWN, and Cork is a CITY. Apparently people really do notice the difference. When I asked Kieran's sister Michelle the other night if she lived right in the city of Mallow, she got a kick out of it. Anyway, in Mallow Gillian got me a library card, I bought some stamps, and exchanged my last American money.
When we got back, Gill and Kieran ran to the hospital to visit his uncle and I stayed with the kids. I was glad to know they felt comfortable doing that this early. I was expecting the worse with Eoghan because of what a fit he threw the other night when his parents left, but he was PERFECT. No fussing at all. It was amazing. We walked up the road to "Paddy and William's farm". Paddy and William are Gillian's cousins and live up the road. A guy named Michael was working there and stopped to talk to us for a little while. He asked where I was from, etc. and when I told him America, he said "Ohhh you're a Yankee". I probably shocked him by how offended I got by that, but I figured Bay Bay would be proud for my reaction. I explained that I am from the South and NOT a Yankee!
I helped Gillian put clothes out on the line today to dry. She had been waiting for a sunny day to do it. I told her I didn't have a clothes line at home and she couldn't believe it! They use a dryer as a last resort here because it wastes electricity and she couldn't believe with all the sunny days in America that people don't use clothes lines. To be honest, I didn't have a good answer for her question. I guess convenience??
Also, I don't know if I had mentioned before how many cows are here. They are everywhere! Its really kind of funny.
