Happy Katie (in Eoghan's old pajamas)
This is me trying to keep Eoghan from running away in the shopping center, so I have him pose with every possible statue...This is downtown Cobh.
Sorry for the delay on the blog postings.. I finally have my internet working so I can write something. Thats also why I've been behind on answering emails.. I will hopefully catch up at some point.
So yesterday we drove into Cobh (pronouned "Cove") so I could see the area and so Eoghan (Savannah thinks his name looks like Egghead) could see the ships. I had to hold in my laughter when Kieran pulled out the "straps" for Eoghan. Basically the straps are a harness/leash for him!! I guess its karma after all these times I've laughed at kids with children on leashes.. now I will be one of them. It honestly is a smart idea with Eoghan though because I think he would run out into the street in a heartbeat.
Anyway, Cobh is the Irish name for "Queenstown", which is where the Titantic left to head to America. Its a very pretty town- more touristy than Killavullen. We walked through the nautical museum which talked about the Titanic, Lusitania, etc. There was one blurb that talked about the U.S.S. Jamestown that brought over supplies to help the starving people during the Potato Famine. I must say I felt a little pride reading that!
Last night, Gillian and Kieran ran to the hospital to visit Kieran's sick uncle while I stayed at home with the kids and "Auntie Michelle". Michelle is Kieran's older sister (30) and is one of the friendliest people I have met. She was a lot of fun to be around- and a huge help in getting me used to the kids' bedtime routine.
Today, I went for a run for the first time. The hills are like Charlottesville's so I have a lot to get used to. They have about a 1/2 mile incline up to their driveway- it about killed me at the end. I also got some strange looks as people were driving by. Gillian says no one really runs around here, so everyone will be asking her who the strange girl was running in town. Oh well..
Later, we went to another graduation ("debs") party for her cousin. We of course had tea and biscuits (our third time in one day!) and visited with all of the cousins around. When we were leaving, I found Eoghan outside holding a kitten by its neck. Poor thing looked like it was being strangled (unintentionally of course!) Luckily the kitten didn't seem to mind too much! We then went to dinner at Gillian's sister's house. Tommy (her brother in law) spent about thirty minutes explaining the game of hurling to me. It looks brutal. Its a mix between soccer, football, and lacrosse.. thats the best description I can give..
Sarah asked for some funny things they say here:
trash can- rubbish bin
cupcake-bun
diaper-nappy
pacifier-doedoe
tv-tele
fries-chips
chips-tatoes or crisps
candy-biscuit
Anyway, I think I finally have skype working so I will try to call people soon when I get a free minute. Also, if you hadn't heard.. David's blog account is "TheIrishNannysGoodLookingBrother". I may be the only one that gets a kick out of that, but now I am entertained by a two year olds humor, so I guess my standards have changed..!
Eoghan is no longer only the name of your adopted son, but also my GPS. He has a British accent and gets very upset when he has to "recalculate" the route. He hasnt asked for chippy's yet, but I think thats because we are still getting to know each other.
ReplyDeleteso I am just catching up on old posts, but when I was in Spain, I had the same problem - lots of weird looks from the locals when I went running. Apparently it is okay to run in the park, but no one runs on the street (but then how do you get to the park is my question??!?!?!?) LOOOOOVVVEEE You!
