The Rose of Tralee

Hedgehog. Not a badger or anteater or whatever other guesses I came up with. Our little friend decided to visit us again today when Gillian was around, so she was able to pinpoint what type of animal he was. I had definitely never seen a hedgehog before. They are pretty weird looking. I got a little bit of a better picture of it today to post.

Today was a good day. Gill's friend Jen came for tea and brought her son Max who is Katie's age. Jen is from New Zealand so it will be good to have her around because she understands what its like to be so far from home.

This afternoon Gillian's cousin Marion came over and stayed to watch the final night of the 'Rose of Tralee'. Again, I like it so much better than Miss America because theres no swimsuit contest or evening wear or anything- the girls don't even have to present a talent if they don't want to. It is based off an interview and all the girls are normal sized- as opposed to a lot of the starving Miss Americas (minus Leigh-Taylor of course). One was even a size 16! Anyway, they also have international roses (London is actually the girl that ended up winning), but these participants have to have some sort of Irish blood. Because I know I have Irish blood in me somewhere, Gillian is convinced I will be the Washington DC Rose next year! Most of the international roses were second generation immigrants, so its doubtful I would qualify but it was funny to hear Gillian and Marion encouraging it.

I got a cell phone today but feel a little bit like Mom because I don't even know what my number is! I also got some nice letters from home in the mail today- thanks Bay Bay and Savannah! Y'all made my day. I love hearing from home, so please keep me posted on everything (and I will respond as soon as I get the chance!!)
