Today was SUCH a beautiful day! It was the first day since I've been here where we did not see a single drop of rain! It was warm also (warm here is about 68 degrees or so). I don't know if the kids were okay with it, but I had us spend most of the day outside enjoying the nice weather. Rumor has it that it'll be dry around here for about 10 days.
This morning Katie started waving! It was so cute. Gill was leaving for school and walked behind her and just said "Bye Bye, Katie" and Katie (not even looking at Gill) picked up her hand and waved. She has a very regal wave- acts more like a queen than a 9 month old! I will try to get a good video of it to post.
This afternoon, we went to Gill's dad's girlfriend's (Brid- pronounced "Breed") where I had my first encounter with a bull. They were dosing the bull with medicines to kill off the bugs, diseases, etc. that it could possibly catch. I uploaded a picture of the bulls in their "crush" where they confine them to dose them with the meds. They then were taking it to be weighed to see if it was up to 750 kilos. Once it hits that weight, it is at the point where they can sell it. Unfortunately it didn't hit that mark, but it was great watching them get it into the trailer. They have to be very strategic about which fences can be open to get it into the trailer. It was quite a lesson. I also included a picture of Eoghan on top of a pile of bales. Something called silage is inside the bales and its what the cows eat in the winter. I had never heard of it before I came here..
When we got back, I was upstairs and I heard some screaming downstairs. Eoghan isn't the best patient, so at first I figured it was nothing (and Gill was down there with the kids anyway), but it continued. When the crying didn't stop, I went downstairs to check on Eoghan. Gill's sister and her boyfriend had come over with their German Shepard and apparently it snapped at Eoghan right under his eye. They had cleaned it up by the time I got down there, but it still looked pretty bad. They had to take him into the doctor to be looked at. Luckily his vaccines were up to date, so he didn't need a tetanus shot, but his eye looks pretty bad (very black and blue). If the dog had bit a little bit above or below where he did, it would have been very bad. Thank goodness everything was alright. Gillian had been considering buying Kieran a puppy for his birthday next week, but for some reason or another had ruled that out a few days ago (good thing!!). Now they are talking about putting the dog down- which just kills me especially because, how they described it, it was a completely innocent mistake. Eoghan grabbed its ear when he was trying to pull himself up and the dog snapped. I guess they don't want to risk something else happening but the dog lover in me doesn't want them to do that.
is silage where they get the word silos?
ReplyDeletealso, its a GOOD thing you weren't wearing red!
