Garda Station

So when I arrived in Ireland, coming through customs they told me I had until Oct. 18th to present myself to the "guards" (police station).. they didn't tell me what would happen if I didn't do that, but I wasn't going to test it out. So I went into the "garda station" about a month ago and was informed that I had to come back when the immigration officer was on duty. His hours have been incredibly difficult to match up with (once a week for two random hours at a time). Anyway, I finally met with him last night to sort out my visa from this end. He was very friendly and even let me cut in line since I had been trying to make an appointment with him for so long! After talking with him for a little while, he asked where in the US I was from. Apparently he just got back from visiting his brother in LYNCHBURG! How random!! Sadly, he wasn't too impressed with it..!

Gillian's cousin Paul died yesterday. He was not in good shape so it is somewhat of a blessing for him and for the family. I am learning a lot about Irish funerals though- the first night is the rosary (prayers), the second day is the removal, and the third day is the funeral and the burial. It seems like a busy time and a very quick turn-around for the funeral. Since they are busy with the funeral, I am now working some extra hours this weekend. It is difficult after a tough week with the kids (Eoghan wasn't on his best behavior!), but its also nice because finding a babysitter is one less thing that they have to go through. They are also considerate of trying to get me at least one full day off this weekend!

In more exciting news, I booked a flight to Dublin with a couple of the other au pairs for next weekend. I was very torn about booking it because it is Gillian's birthday weekend, but she insisted that I go if I was at all interested. I will be back in the late evening of her birthday, so if she and Kieran wanted to go do anything, I'd be here to stay with the kids.

Oh, also, Katie now knows how to clap her hands! She also can respond to "what does the tractor say?" (go figure!)

  1. okay i have a couple of comments since that is what my responses are coming to, "post a comment" instead of just randomly telling you my every thought.

1.) how weird is it that you can now say "A MONTH AGO!" on your blog. freaking me out over here.

2.) the tractors and the farming and all this is reminding me of the prince and me. moral of the story: you should be golden for the lawnmower/tractor races and also go find yourself that prince;)
